Discovery Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne
Drinks Reception, from 18.30 hrs
Hosted uniquely around the Turbinia, the reception will provide a warm welcom to all to mark the 1st anniversary of the Marine Design Centre's formation. Mr Ian Williams, Director of Business & Industry at ONE North East, will welcome guests.
With thanks to our Drinks Reception sponsor, TDR Training
Dinner
In the Museum's spectacular Great Hall, an excellent chance to meet industry professionals and our keynote speakers in a sociable setting. Our speakers after dinner will be:
Mr David Bowles OBE
As Chairman of MDC, Chairman of NDI and Chairman of Argonautics , David is well-qualified to talk about the upsurge in demand in the marine sector and the challenges and opportunities this creates for recruiting, developing and retaining skills in the region.
Rear Admiral Terry Loughran
Perceptive, extrovert and amusing, Terry is the antithesis of an Admiral; short in stature and known affectionately by his people as ‘Big Tel’, he is a pilot, and has commanded HMS Ark Royal, the largest ship in the Royal Navy.
Terry will draw on his extensive sea-going experience as a naval officer to illuminate some of the challenges facing ship designers today.
