Opportunities for people to learn about exciting careers in the rapidly expanding marine design and related engineering sectors, is fast approaching.
On Wednesday July 2, North East companies will showcase the jobs they can offer at the Marine Recruitment & Skills Fair at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle 11.30 - 8pm.
The Fair comes at a time when companies are seeking to recruit new blood so as to meet the exceptional levels of demand they are meeting for their services from across the globe.
It is being coordinated by the Marine Design Centre a member-based organisation based in Newcastle, whose aim is to assist and support the growth of the sector in the region.
David Hewitt, Director of The Marine Design Centre said: "The sector is currently experiencing tremendous demand and it is anticipated that this will continue for some time to come. Our members tell us that they can see great opportunities ahead and that now is the time to attract high quality people who may be at the beginning or at mid-cycle in their careers and who are looking for an exciting challenge."
"The Fair will be ideal for people with a wide range of skills and ages including those already engaged in the engineering and manufacturing sectors and looking for a new challenge. We would also encourage graduates, apprentices and others seeking to re skill to see exactly what is on offer. Training providers will also be on hand to advise on acquiring appropriate skills.
"Our members operate in a wide range of sectors including defence, commercial shipping, oil and gas and renewables, all of which are experiencing exciting growth and making this the ideal time to forge a long term career in the marine and related engineering sectors."
Presentations during the event will focus on helping individuals and companies to develop skills and identify what support is available for industry.

Note: Turbinia. Once the fastest ship in the world, Turbina is one of Discovery Museum's most popular and impressive exhibits. Situated at the heart of the museum she immediately grabs the attention of visitors. Interactive displays and an impressive multi-media wall showing footage relating to this great ship can also be enjoyed.
Turbinia was built in 1894 by Charles Parsons and changed the face of maritime history. It was the first ship to be powered by a steam turbine and, in 1897, was the fastest ship in the world.
