Region set to dominate national finals

The Marine Design Centre hosted a challenging day of competition earlier this month with 10 young designers competing in the Northern heat of the World Skills UK Engineering CADD competition.

And we are delighted to announce that the region will dominate the national finals in London later in the month with 3 out of 5 finalists from the North East.

Congratulations to all competitors for a superb showing, in which 5 North East competitors finished in the national top 10. And congratulations in particular to top 3 finishers and final qualifiers Tom Adams (of Unison), Rhys Long (Wellstream) and Chris Bradley (Miller UK).

Tom Adams, seen here on the right receiving his certificate from WorldSkills UK's Matthew Bell, enters the final as the highest scoring competitor nationally.

The competition tested competitors’ performance using CAD to produce 2D technical drawings, 3D models and 3D assemblies. In addition, higher level competitors were required to produce animations including GDT (Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in technical drawings.

The competition was organised in the Northern Region by TDR Training. Highest scoring competitors in the UK final will ultimately represent the UK in international competition.

The Marine Design Centre is also pleased to be supporting the national final event by supplying some of the hi-spec PCs normally used in its design office for contestants in the final!
